Reasonable Worship

Read Romans 12:1-8

“And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” (Romans 12:1, NLT)

Did you know that you are God’s masterpiece? According to Paul, in Ephesian 2:10 we are God’s handiwork – His workmanship, “created in Christ Jesus for good works.” The Greek word for workmanship is poiema, it means, something made. We have been made anew in Christ and that new life is the result of God’s work. But, we were not made for display in a museum or art gallery; rather we are made as a display of God’s goodness before the whole world joyfully doing the work for which He made us.

Therefore, we offer ourselves in service to God as a form of worship. In return God makes clear to us his will for our lives, bestowing on us gifts by which we build the church and proclaim His kingdom. Since to be Christian is to be God’s poiema, His masterpiece, created for good works, no Christian is exempt from this.
Do you know the work for which God has saved you? Are you faithfully walking in that work as a form of worship? Paul encourages us to offer our bodies to God as a living sacrifice. That means dying to our wants and desires and living for God’s. In so doing God promises to reveal his “good, pleasing and perfect will.” So, pray, pray, pray to know His will during this time of sacrifice. God’s desire to make His will known is far greater than our desire to know it. For what craftsman doesn’t long to see his handywork on display?
